Almayate is a special little corner of the Axarquía. With no large hotels or overcrowded holiday resorts, it retains the peaceful atmosphere of a traditional coastal village, with its dark sandy and pebble beaches, its small beach bars, and an atmosphere closely linked to camping and caravanning. It is a favourite spot for travellers seeking an outdoor lifestyle, year-round sunshine and the Mediterranean just a stone’s throw from their tent or motorhome.
To get around the area, a compact car is the most practical option: it handles the back roads of the Axarquía well and is easy to park both in the village and when you head down to the coast. If there are several of you travelling or you plan to carry bikes, surfboards or beach gear, it’s best to book an estate car or a people carrier with a spacious boot. And if your plans include a leisurely drive along the N-340 or a trip up into the mountains, automatic versions are a good option to make the journey more comfortable.

We’ll deliver your car to your campsite
In Almayate, car drop-off and collection at the campsite are free of charge. We’ll arrange a date and time with you, drive you to the campsite entrance, where we’ll sign the contract and hand over the keys. When your stay is over, simply leave the car parked on the campsite and hand the key in at reception; our team will take care of the rest.
Drop-off times are Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 17:45 to 18:15, and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:00. There is no drop-off or collection service at the campsite on Sundays. If your return flight departs from Málaga, you can also end your trip by leaving the car at our airport office: for rentals of less than a week, a €30 surcharge applies for the one-way service; for longer stays, there is no charge for this return.

Almayate is one of those places where camping is practically the natural choice of accommodation. The two main campsites are right by the sea, with direct access to the beach and just a few minutes’ drive from the centre of Torre del Mar. These are the campsites we drove to:
Camping Almayate Costa, situated next to the N-340, is the best-known option in the area: spacious pitches, direct access to the beach, a swimming pool, a restaurant and a great atmosphere for families and regular caravaners. Just a few metres away, we also look after Camping Almanat, a long-established naturist campsite in the area, situated opposite an FKK beach and highly rated for its friendly service and well-maintained facilities.

Day trips from Almayate
Almayate is ideally situated as a base from which to explore the area at your own pace. To the south lies the coast, to the north the mountains, and within half an hour’s drive in either direction are some of the most fascinating spots in the Axarquía and Granada.
Just five kilometres away is Torre del Mar, perfect for a morning stroll along the seafront promenade, a visit to the market and a bite to eat by the water’s edge. Heading inland, in fifteen minutes you’ll reach Vélez-Málaga, the region’s historic capital, with its Moorish fortress and an old town well worth a leisurely stroll. And if you fancy a trip up to a white village with views, in half an hour you’ll reach Macharaviaya, a quiet little village with fewer tourists than its neighbours and a rich history linked to the Gálvez family (their descendants helped found Galveston, in Texas).
For a slightly longer day out, an hour’s drive along the coast will take you to Nerja, where you can combine a visit to the Nerja Caves, head to the coves of Maro or take in the view from the Balcón de Europa. It’s a great way to round off the day with a swim before heading back to the campsite.

Is there a charge for delivering the car to my campsite in Almayate?
No. We’ll deliver the car to the campsite at no extra cost, and we’ll collect it at the end of your stay. Both services are included in the booking price.
What are your car collection times?
We deliver from Monday to Friday in two time slots (10:00 to 13:00 and 17:45 to 18:15), and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:00. There is no delivery or collection service at the campsite on Sundays. When you make your booking, simply choose the time slot that suits you and we’ll coordinate with you.
What if I want to stay in a hotel nearby?
In Almayate, we only deliver to campsites. If you’d prefer a hotel, the nearest options with delivery to your accommodation are in Torre del Mar, about five kilometres away, where we do offer a hotel delivery service. You can also collect the car directly from our office in Torrox, which is the closest to Almayate, and drive to your hotel yourself.
Can I pick up the car in Almayate and drop it off at Málaga Airport?
Yes, we can arrange that. For bookings of less than a week, a €30 surcharge applies for the one-way service. For longer stays, there is no extra charge for leaving the car at the airport.
What documents do I need to bring on the day of collection?
Your ID card or passport, a driving licence held for at least one year, and a credit card in your name as a security deposit. If you only have a debit card, that’s fine too: in that case, we’ll charge a deposit of €350, which we’ll refund when the contract ends. The minimum age is 21 and there is no upper age limit. A second driver is included in the price.
