Enjoy your hire car in Castell de Ferro

Castell de Ferro is one of those coastal villages that still retain their old-world charm: a small town centre, a fishing port with a life of its own, and a 16th-century defensive tower overlooking the sea, which gives the village its name and character. The beaches here are pebbly, with crystal-clear water and few crowds, ideal for those seeking a peaceful swim, skewers of grilled seafood on the shore and a more authentic pace of life, far from mass tourism. Behind it lies the Sierra de la Contraviesa, with paths winding their way up through vineyards and almond groves to the inland villages.

To get around comfortably, we recommend a compact car: the streets in the old town are narrow, parking is limited in summer, and a nippy little car makes everything easier. If there are several of you travelling or you plan to carry bikes, parasols or beach chairs, opt for an estate car or a people carrier with extra space. And for those who prefer a smooth ride, especially if you’re planning to head up to Contraviesa or into the Alpujarras, automatic models will make for a more relaxed journey.

Your booking includes all the essentials as standard: 24-hour assistance anywhere in Andalusia, a free additional driver to share the long drives, and no deposit required when collecting the car if you pay by credit card. The rate you confirm online is the rate you pay when you collect the car, with no last-minute charges.

We’ll deliver your car to your accommodation

If you’re staying at a hotel or campsite in Castell de Ferro, we’ll deliver the car straight there. We’ll arrange a date and time that suits you best, come to your accommodation, go through the contract with you, and leave the keys ready for you to drive off. When you return, simply leave the car parked nearby and the key at reception; our team will collect it at the agreed time, so you won’t have to wait for anyone.

Delivery and collection in Castell de Ferro each cost a flat rate of €15, making it one of the most affordable locations in the area. We operate Monday to Friday in two slots (10.30 am to 1.05 pm and 5.45 pm to 6.10 pm), and on Saturdays from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm. There is no drop-off or collection service at accommodation on Sundays. If your return flight departs from Málaga, you can also end your trip by leaving the car at our airport office: for rentals of less than a week, a €30 surcharge applies for the one-way service; for longer stays, this return is free of charge.

Hotels and campsites we serve in Castell de Ferro

Despite its size, Castell de Ferro offers a wide range of accommodation options for a small coastal village: from traditional guesthouses right in the square to boutique apartments overlooking the sea and a wooded campsite just a stone’s throw from the beach. Here are a few places we usually drive to:

In the heart of the village, in Plaza de España, we run Hostal Costa Sol, a family-run guesthouse with refurbished rooms, sea views and a great location for exploring the town centre on foot. On the road to Almería, we’ll take you to Hotel Ibérico, a very family-friendly option known for its Italian restaurant. If you’re looking for something more modern, we also recommend Victoria House’s, a boutique B&B carved into the rock with spectacular views of the Mediterranean and highly rated by returning guests. And for those travelling by motorhome or tent, we’ll take your vehicle to Camping Huerta Romero, with direct access to the beach and pitches maintained to such a high standard that it has become a local favourite.

These are just a few examples. There are other places to stay in the village that we can also reach: just let us know when you book which one you’re staying at and we’ll arrange it with you.

Day trips from Castell de Ferro

Castell de Ferro enjoys a privileged location on the Costa Tropical: the coastline stretches out on either side, dotted with small coves that change every few kilometres, whilst to the north rises the Penibético mountain range, with valleys, white villages and mountain landscapes that seem far away but are less than an hour’s drive away.

Heading west, a ten-minute drive along the N-340 takes you to Calahonda de Granada and, just beyond that, to Carchuna – two coves that share a promenade and a more laid-back atmosphere, perfect for a different beach experience every morning. In the other direction, you’ll reach La Mamola (five minutes away), an old fishing village with its own breakwater and fresh fish restaurants well worth a stop, and Melicena a little further east. If you fancy heading inland, in forty minutes you’ll be in Albuñol, the capital of La Contraviesa, with its viewpoint, vineyards and the Cueva de los Murciélagos just a stone’s throw away.

And if you’re only going to go on one unforgettable excursion during your trip, head up to the Alpujarras. Just over an hour’s drive up from the coast, the white villages clinging to the Poqueira ravine (Pampaneira, Bubión, Capileira) await you with their whitewashed streets, traditional tinaos (granaries), jarapa looms and some of the most authentic mountain cuisine in Andalusia. It’s an outing that completely changes your perspective on the trip and, from Castell de Ferro, it’s much closer than it seems.
